Summary of Captain's Day
Simon Partridge's Captain's Day took place at Frinton Links Golf Club on 14th May. The weather forecast for the day was horrendous but, fortunately, they got it wrong and the dark black clouds surrounded us for most of the afternoon but only a minimal amount of rain fell during our rounds.
Simon had arranged for a young Frinton member, Charlie Rushbridge, who play off plus 4 and who has a very good amateur ranking, to accept challenges from each of our members on the par 3 13th hole and to be closer to the hole than him. 34 members challenged him and only 2 were closer than he was. The money collected by Charlie amounted to £485 and was in aid of our charity, Greenfingers. The profit on the day of just over £1,100 was also donated by Simon to Greenfingers, so a total just in excess of £1,600 was collected on the day for the charity. Many thanks to Simon and the members and guests for their donations.
The Captain's prize and Claret Jug trophy was won by our Vice Captain, John Dornan with 37 points beating our current Captain, Simon, also with 37 points on a count back of the last 6 holes. The guests prize was won by Tim Logan with 30 points. There were also prizes for nearest the pins on all 5 par 3's and nearest the pin in 3 on par 5 18th hole.
A wonderful day was had by everyone and our sincere thanks go to Frinton Links GC, to all their excellent staff and, especially to our Captain, Simon Partridge.
