The annual HGS Charity Day in aid of Greenfingers was held at Sandy Lodge GC on 27th August. After nearly 9 weeks of no rain, the early morning turned out to be very wet and thunderstorms in the area. The weather eventually brightened up and play started at 1:30 with a shotgun start. Unfortunately, thunderstorms were still in the area and the "klaxon" was sounded at 3pm and all players had to leave the course. We all then waited until 5:15pm when the management dedided that there was still some lightening in the area. The Committee decided that the tournament would be played over 6 holes (which was the minimum played by any group). 

The winning score was 31 points scored by "Odds and Sods"; a team of Merv Foulds, Roger Head, Roger Byrne and Jonathan Dixon Smith, with VITAX in 2nd place losing out on the back 5 holes. The results are posted in the secction below.

Various other activities took place in the day including Beat the Pro, nearest the pins on par 3's, raffle, "Heads and Tails" and a silent auction. This, together with funding from our Captain's Day and President's Day, resulted in us collecting over £13,500 for our chosen charity , Greenfingers. 

Whilst being disappointed by the weather, everyone had a fun day and a considerable amount of money was raised for Greenfingers. 

Our next competion is the Captain's Week Away in Dinard, Brittany, starting on 6th September.
